The Colorado Avalanche have signed goaltender Jean-Sebastien Giguere to a two-year contract, the club announced on Friday.
“Giguere is a veteran netminder who will complete our goaltending tandem,” said Avalanche General Manager/Executive Vice President Greg Sherman. “He is a proven winner and his addition will be beneficial to our entire team.”
In 525 career NHL games, Giguere posted a 231-195-67 career record with a 2.53 goals-against average, .913 save percentage and 34 shutouts. His 231 wins rank ninth among active goaltenders. Giguere also has 52 career postseason games to his resume, where he’s compiled a 33-17 record with a 2.08 GAA and .925 Sv%.
He backstopped the Anaheim Ducks to the 2007 Stanley Cup Championship and also captured the 2003 Conn Smythe Trophy as playoff MVP after leading the Ducks to Game 7 of the Stanley Cup Final against New Jersey, becoming the fifth player in league history to win the Conn Smythe on a losing team.
