Woman, 85, pulled from North York house fire

An 85-year-old woman is in stable condition after she was rescued from a house fire in North York Wednesday morning.

Fire crews were called to the home on Yorkview Drive, near Bathurst Street and Finch Avenue, around 9:20 a.m.

“There was a report that a woman with mobility issues was still inside the home,” Toronto fire captain Mike Strapko told CityNews.

“Crews got there quick, attacked the fire, did a search and found her and brought her out within 10 minutes of the initial call.”

It’s likely she breathed in a lot of smoke, Strapko said. The woman was rushed to hospital where she remains in stable condition.

The fire likely started in the kitchen and while the damage was minor, the fire produced a lot of smoke, platoon chief Trevor Trotter said.

Roads in the area were shut down as crews work to battle the flames.

The Ontario Fire Marshal’s office is investigating.
