A Peel Regional Police officer is facing criminal charges following an investigation by the service’s Police Professional Standards Bureau.
The charges stem from an allegation of an assault during an arrest on Nov. 14, 2019, police said.
The officer has been suspended with pay as per the Police Services Act.
“Upon receiving this information, investigators from the Professional Standards Bureau immediately commenced an investigation,” said Chief Nishan Duraiappah in a news release Friday. “I would like to assure the public that any allegations of an unlawful act carried out by our members will be investigated quickly and thoroughly.”
Const. Sean Osborne has been charged with one count of assault and one count of attempt to obstruct justice. He has been with the service for 16 years, police said.
He will appear in Brampton court on March 16.
