5 correctional officers charged in detention centre assault

Five corrections officers are facing assault charges following an incident at the Toronto South Detention Centre.

Police say a prisoner at the facility claims he was assaulted by a total of six correctional officers on Dec. 20, 2019.

On Friday, March 6, five of the men surrendered at 11 Division and were charged with aggravated assault. Police say a sixth person is expected to be charged at a later date.

No further details were given as to what occurred or what types of injuries were sustained by the inmate.
