Toronto to replace all water meters across city

The City of Toronto is slated to replace all the water meters across the city.

It will take six years to install or replace the meters in every home and business across the city at a cost of $219-million.

Each new meter has an automated reading device that measures exact consumption rates and eliminates the need for city staff to do so.

City officials have said the new meters will also help improve water conservation, save operational costs and ensure more accurate billing.

The mandatory program begins this week, with about a half a million homes in the Davenport and Toronto Centre-Rosedale areas.
