GO Transit fares go up in the new year

GO Transit riders can expect to pay about five percent more for their commute next year.

Metrolinx is recommending an increase between 35 and 55 cents on adult tickets starting February 1.

The Toronto Star reports the amount a rider pays will depend on the station and distance they travel.

Fares of $6.15 or less would go up by 35 cents, $7.80 or more would go up by 55 cents and those in between would rise by 45 cents.

However, if you are a Presto card holder your loyalty discount goes up 10 percent for the first 35 rides in a month. Currently it’s 8.7 percent.

Metrolinx says the fare increase is supposed to help pay for GO’s continued expansion.
