Man charged with 2nd degree murder in west end homicide

By Lucas Casaletto

A 33-year-old man was arrested and charged in the alleged fatal shooting of another man at a restaurant in Toronto’s west end earlier this month.

Police were called to the Eglinton Avenue West and Oakwood Avenue area just before 4 a.m. on June 5 for reports of shots fired.

Officers found a man suffering from life-threatening gunshot wounds inside a restaurant. He was transported to a trauma centre, where he was pronounced dead.

Police say there was a large gathering at the restaurant, and the man was involved in an altercation when another person drew a firearm.

The victim was identified as 54-year-old Michael Barnes of Toronto.

On Tuesday, police arrested 33-year-old Daniel Baugh of Stoney Creek.

Baugh was charged with second-degree murder and appeared in court on Wednesday.
