Toronto police have charged three men with second-degree murder in Monday’s shooting death of a 26-year-old man at a Swansea Mews housing complex.
Early Friday morning, officers raided the complex and arrested 21-year-old Christopher Shaw. He was charged with second-degree murder in the daylight execution of Christopher Kotsopoulos. Police also seized three guns.
Later Friday, two more outstanding suspects were arrested and also charged with second-degree murder.
They are Eli Goldman, 23, and Jeffrey Truong, 25, both of Toronto.
At a news conference on Friday, Det.-Sgt. Pauline Gray said Kotsopoulos — who used to live in the neighbourhood near Windermere Road and The Queensway — had been visiting friends when he was murdered.
She said a fight broke out in a laneway around 5:30 p.m., and within minutes it escalated to the shooting. She attributes it not to anything gang-related, but rather to “young men with entitlement and guns.”
Residents have been telling police they’re fed up with the violence and are concerned for their children’s safety.
Toronto police are crediting the residents of Swansea Mews for aiding their investigation.
“They are coming out in droves and talking about what’s happened,” Gray said.
Police are still trying to identify two other suspects in connection to the killing.
