Berry Ugly

They’re not going to make the grocery store flyer, but ‘ugly’ fruit is making a name for itself at one British chain.
Waitrose, an upscale store, is selling blemished and bruised strawberries, plums and tomatoes at a discount. The chain is marketing the fruit as not something you might want in a fruit salad or salsa, but perfect for use in pies and jams.
It’s not the first supermarket to sell unappealing-looking fruit for cheap, but it’s the first to focus on the uses for it.
