Neighbours React To Johnathon Verdict

The neighbours who lived next door to Kevin and Johnathon Madden – the teenage killer and his victim – will never forget the events that took place near them in November 2003.

They were shocked by the ferocity of the attack and even more horrified when they learned court testimony showed Kevin Madden planned to kill his entire family.

Most who knew the brothers recall them as being quintessentially ‘normal.’

But Carl Allen has a different perspective. “The kids would come over, but the kids were very distant from everybody,” he remembers.

“They weren’t like with the family, with the dad or the mom, you know? The older brother, even more so.”

The family admits the trial has left them broken beyond repair, with the step-father – one of the victims in the attack – confessing in a court statement he still has trouble sleeping and working and that the entire ordeal has left what’s left of his brood in dire financial straits.

For most of us, it’s the end of a long trial. For those who knew Johnathon and tried to love Kevin, it’s a trial of tribulation that will never really end.
