Firefighters Take Control Of Warehouse Blaze

Toronto firefighters had their hands full overnight battling a stubborn warehouse blaze in the city’s west end.

Crews were called to a printing company on Carson St. near Browns Line and Lake Shore Blvd. West at about 3:30am for what was initially labelled a two-alarm fire. But the flames spread quickly and before long it had grown into three-alarm status.

That brought out aerial units and nearly 100 firefighters to bring it under control.

“The main reason we bring in a lot of firefighters is so that we have rehab. We don’t overwork the firefighters,” said Toronto Fire Platoon Chief Mike O’Leary. “We can get them to do their tasks then relieve them. Then we have other crews come in.”

Several nearby buildings, including a few homes, were evacuated as a precaution, and individuals affected by the safety measure took shelter in a TTC bus.

“It’s a little bit hard to wake up the kids because it’s too early in the morning,” said area resident Rodrigo Agarpao.

Fortunately no one was injured in the fire, and as of 8am firefighters had put out the flames and were looking for any remaining hotspots.

There’s still no word on a cause or how much damage was done.

Carson St. was closed off as crews continued to extinguish the blaze, but there were no other significant road closures reported.
