Leafs Edge Rangers In New York

Mats Sundin had a goal and an assist to lead the Toronto Maple Leafs to a 2-1 win over the New York Rangers on Wednesday night.

Sundin’s third-period goal snapped a 1-1 tie and gave the captain 20 goals on the season — the 16 th straight season he’s potted 20 during a career marked by consistency.  

Alexei Ponikarovsky tied the game at 1-1 on the power play after taking a nice feed from Sundin and proceeding to bank it off a Ranger defenceman’s skate and into the net.  

The surging Buds have now won five of their last six games with four wins coming away from the friendly confines of the Air Canada Centre.

Brendan Shanahan scored for lone goal for the Rangers, who entered the game tied with the Leafs for ninth place in the Eastern Conference.

Toronto goalie Andrew Raycroft looked sharp in his 13th straight start, making 37 saves.
