No Canadians Among Casualties At Virginia Tech

Foreign Affairs spokesman Alain Cacchione confirmed that no Canadians were among Monday’s casualties following the school shooting rampage at Virginia Tech.

There are reportedly up to 16 Canadians attending the school, but none were hit during the shocking waves of gunfire that ultimately ended 33 lives.

Elyssa Cramm, 21, is an exchange student from the Maritimes.   She was leaving her dorm room for an 11 a.m. class when a friend told her about the killings.

“Right now we’re not making sense of anything. It’s just mind-boggling,” she said.   “A lot of people are in shock and it’s going to be a while.”

Another Canadian student at Virginia Tech, Yoann Re, 18, didn’t leave his room after learning of the violence.

He spoke to CityNews about the atmosphere on campus.

“I didn’t know right away what was going on,” he admits.   “I knew two hours later, and I learned that through my roommate and through the web site of Virginia Tech, and I didn’t have much information at the beginning so I didn’t really know what was going on.”

Re says police ordered students to stay in their rooms and to lock their doors.
