Toronto’s Bus Terminal Busier Than Usual

Everyone wants to be outside soaking up the sun while it lasts.

That’s why spending hours on a train platform or at a bus terminal is not exactly what some people had in mind for the first summer-like weekend of the year.

But some unlucky travellers didn’t have much of a choice.

While there were still no trains available earlier Saturday because of a native blockade that had shut down service east of Toronto, the city’s bus terminal was busier than usual.

Normally there’s about 10 to 15 buses heading out on any given weekend, but on Saturday there were more than 20.

The disruption was causing commuters real headaches.

“I only learned of the train stoppage last night from a friend and I’ve been scrambling to try and find a way to make it back to my family,” said frustrated commuter and Queen’s University professor Douglas Reid.

“I use the train a lot or I fly.I’ve been scrambling to make it here on time and I didn’t even know this was coming.”

Students on their way to write their final exams at out-of-town universities felt stranded and worried that they wouldn’t be there on time to make the final grade.

“I have an exam today and I’m probably going get there right before it…I was kind of worried about that,” said Kierstyn Garbowsky.
