Fire Near Tavern
Firefighters were quick to put out a blaze that broke out on Yonge St. on Sunday. The fire started in a two storey building next to a local tavern “Zanzibar” shortly after 9am. No one was hurt and there’s no word yet on what sparked the flames.
Major 400 Crash
Provincial police are relying on witnesses to tell them what happened in a nasty crash on Highway 400 Sunday night. A car and SUV collided and rolled in the southbound express lanes near the 407 just after 6PM. A man and woman in the SUV were taken to hospital. He’s listed in critical condition, she’s in serious condition. Call the OPP Aurora detachment at (905) 841-5777 if you can help.
Fatal Fire
Four Barrie area teens are being hailed as heroes Sunday night after saving two kids from a fatal house fire in Angus, Ont. Crews knocked down what was left of an abandoned home after recovering the body of a third child. Police have not released any information on the victim and the rescued kids were airlifted to an Ottawa hospital and are expected to be okay.
Jeep Rollover
The driver of a jeep that ended up on its roof early Sunday morning remarkably walked away with only a few bumps and bruises. The accident took place on Lansdowne, just north of Davenport. At least two other cars were involved in the incident. The trunk of one of the vehicles was smashed in and the other cars appeared to have some damage to their windshields.
Ravine Rescue
An 85-year-old man suffered some cuts and bruises after a fall down a steep hill near his backyard. The WWII veteran and former fighter pilot was pulled up in a rescue basket after tumbling into some debris in the Woodbine-O’Connor area of Taylor Creek Park on Saturday night. The victim was conscious and in good spirits during the entire ordeal. He was trimming bushes when he fell several metres.
