On Saturday, a bridge collapsed near Goderich, Ont. It happened on Highway 86, outside of Lucknow, Ont. The OPP said between five and eight people – all believed to be construction workers – have been injured and two have serious, but non-life threatening injuries.
Const. Jim Conrad said at least one of the wounded was been air lifted to a nearby hospital. Police are still trying to determine how many people were on the bridge when it fell and what caused the collapse.
The construction crew was pouring concrete on the top of the bridge when the whole structure came down.
“The information I have is there was 15 workers on the site at the time of the incident,” said Conrad, who added not many escaped completely unscathed.
The Ontario Ministry of Labour has been called in to investigate.
