Why You Shouldn’t Use A Shotgun To Get A Tire Off Your Car

And now a lesson in how not to change a tire.

First rule – don’t let your frustration get the better of you.

Second rule – never use a gun to try and finish the job.

It’s something a Southworth, Washington man learned the hard way on the weekend, when he was completing a repair to his Lincoln Continental in the driveway of his home. The 66-year-old Seattle-area car owner had just about finished and was changing the final tire on his baby, when he encountered a lug nut that simply refused to budge.

So he did what any smart thinking mechanic would. He pulled out a 12-gauge shotgun and fired at the stuck bolt in an effort to loosen it. What happened next was predictable. The shot ricocheted off the wheel, went into both legs and dropped him like a stone. An ambulance was called and sped him to hospital with severe but non-life threatening injuries.

Police don’t know what to make of the incident. “He’s bound and determined to get that lug nut off,” comments Kitsap County Deputy Scott Wilson.

It kind of makes you wonder which one was really the stubborn nut.
