Christmas Donations Stolen From Whitby Bar

It was just a few days ago that we told you about a local charity that had the money they raised during a successful fundraiser ripped off by a heartless crook.  And now it’s happened again.

Police are seeking the public’s assistance after approximately $7,000 in Christmas donations were stolen from a restaurant in Whitby on Wednesday November 28th.

The crime took place at the Hunter’s Horn Pub in West Lynde Plaza.

Police believe the suspects broke into the establishment by smashing through the front window with a large sledgehammer.  They took off with a large jug filled with donations for a Christmas party for 32 underprivileged children in the area.

“They’re just heartless. It was a very traumatic, very emotional day,” said Cindy Bawdick, owner of the pub.

The community has rallied around the kids and come forth with numerous donations.  Thanks to their generous efforts, the party will proceed as scheduled on Decemeber 16th.

“There’s no grinch here, not any more,” Bawdick adds. “For that one bad apple, there’s a whole bag of good.”

In the meantime the investigation is ongoing.  If you know anything, contact the Whitby Criminal Investigations Bureau at (905) 579-1520. Anonymous tips can be made to Durham Regional Crime Stoppers at 1-800-222-TIPS (8477) and tipsters may be eligible for a cash reward of up to $2,000.
