Watershed Moment For k.d. lang

She’s a multiple Grammy winner with a 25 year career, received the Order of Canada in 1996, and is a champion of gay rights. It’s enough to make anyone rest on their laurels, but not kd lang. She has a new CD hitting stores, called Watershed. It’s her first album of original material in 8 years.

But she’s been busy. The past year has been a “wonderful whirl,” says lang. “Hymms For the 49 th Parallel went double platinum in Australia and platinum here.” That was her album of covers of other Canadians’ songs.

On this new record, she produced, sang and wrote everything, in addition to playing most of the instruments.

“It just kind of unfolded that way naturally. It was, um, I just started working on these songs and then I realized I had pretty much a record on my hands and decided just to finish it all myself.”

It’s her 14 th album, and, she claims, her most personal yet. “Watershed, for me, is water’s ability to overcome obstacles…if water wants to flow somewhere, it’s going to find its way.”

We’ll be watching to see where lang flows next.
