Free Samples Attract Huge Crowds To LifeFest

They came, they saw, they took home their free samples.

Women – and you’d be hard-pressed to find a man in this crowd – lined up early Friday morning to be the first into LifeFest.

Some even brought rolling suitcases.

The show at the Metro Toronto Convention Centre promises seminars, speakers and self-improvement. But the main draw appears to be the swag.

For the price of entry ($20 at the door, or 2 for $25 Shoppers Drug Mart), the curious were treated to a litany of freebies.

Jars of mayonnaise and toilet paper joined more conventional samples like lotion and protein bars, and everything from Tylenol to toothpaste was available.

Visitors may even make their money back as they traipse from table to table.

“It’s nice to be pampered,” sighed one woman who was getting a foot rub.

“It’s nice to see all the different products,” agreed another, “but I also like to go to the workshops, the seminars.”

Speakers reflected a wide-range of interests. Friday’s keynote will be presented by Margaret Trudeau and her daughter-in-law, Sophie Gregoire Trudeau.

Margaret has spoken openly about her struggle with bipolar disorder, and Sophie will delve into her past history with bulimia.

The list of empowering female speakers also includes Dr Marla Shapiro, an accomplished doctor and medical consultant; as well as CariDee English, who won season 7 of America’s Next Top Model.

And if it all gets to much, there’s sure to be a free cup of tea waiting.
