Peanut butter, lentils and pasta are just a few of the items most needed as the Daily Bread Food Bank kicks off its fall campaign.
Food bank Executive Director Gail Nyberg explains it’s more important than ever, considering the shaky economy, to donate to those most in need.
“If it was important when we had boom time, just imagine how those people who are living right on the edge are feeling now,” she said. “I mean if they’re feeling the pain on Bay Street, they’re feeling it in the homes of those who don’t make a lot of money. People who regularly donate to us might be feeling the pinch too.”
People can drop off food at any Real Canadian Superstore, Loblaws, or fire hall.
Breakfast Television and Citytv will also be holding an annual food bank drive in support of Daily Bread on Thursday, October 9th, and everyone is invited to head down beginning at 6am with some non-perishable items for the charitable organization.
“Well, we’re looking so forward to (that), because Citytv and BT have been exceptional for us,” Nyberg enthused. “We’re kicking it off through the whole fall season, but we’re really looking forward to October 9th.
“Our prices are rising too … we’re saying to people we need 500,000 pounds of food, we also need about $500,000 to continue.”
