Spider-Man Comic Book Starring Barack Obama Sells Out In 20 Mins. In T.O.

He’s not even officially the U.S. President yet, but Barack Obama has already attained immortality in the city – he’s featured in a new Spider-Man comic book in a special appearance that has made the edition an instant classic.

It went on sale in Toronto on Wednesday, but it didn’t stay on store shelves for long. The comic sold out at the Silver Snail on Queen St. W. in about 20 minutes, after many people waited in the bitter cold to ensure they got their copy.

Maurie Sherman was one of the first in line. “It’s a little piece of history to have something with the coolest president we’ve ever had in it,” he explains. “I mean Obama’s like the coolest guy ever … I mean he seems that way, anyway.”

The manager of the store (below) admits he’s been receiving about 10 calls an hour about the publication since the doors opened.

The story has the webslinger coming to the Commander-in-Chief’s aid on inauguration day, saving the ceremony from disaster. And what does the incoming subject think of his appearance in panel form? Obama claims to be a big comic book fan and says he’s thrilled with the depiction.

As he enters the White House, he may also want to take note of Spiderman’s famous dictum: with great power comes great responsibility. It’s a lesson he’s about to learn all too well over the next four years.
