Toronto band Toy Box is rounding up its rowdy friends for a great cause: a benefit concert for the paralyzed brother of the group’s lead singer.
Ian Hyland, 13, was injured in a snowboarding crash Dec. 16. Deriek Simon watched his younger sibling go through rehab for his severe neck injury, and now that he’s home, there’s more work to be done.
Ian’s therapy is continuing and there are other expenses: the home needs to be modified so Ian can get around, and the family needs a specialized vehicle for the same reason.
To that end, Toy Box is holding a concert Sunday at the Kathedral.
Other bands donating their time include Easy Sleezy, Warmachine, Sabrina Korva and Party Gun Rush.
“I’ve put together this show in hopes that we can rally together and help my little brother through this already incredibly tough time,” Simon outlined in a press release.
“All proceeds of this event will be directly donated to helping him through the recovery process.”
The bands involved in the concert are all close to the family and eagerly offered their services for the night.
“We’ve been tight with Toy Box for years and to see how fast a situation like this can happen and change so much is really an eye opener,” says Mike “Wolfgang” Verbeke of Easy Sleezy.
“It’s something that can affect anyone, so we’re honoured to be a part of this event. I hope that everyone can open up their heart and lend a hand.”
“It came as a great shock to hear of this devastating news that has spun a family’s life upside down,” says Chad Campbell of Chizzy Productions, “I’m very proud of an event like this.”
