150-Year-Old Chapman’s Ice Cream Plant Destroyed In Fire

A 150-year-old ice cream factory has been destroyed in a fire.

The blaze broke out at the Chapman’s plant in Markdale around 10am on Friday.

Firefighters from Markdale as well as neighbouring communities Flesherton, Meaford and Thornbury rushed to the scene to battle the flames.

There are no reports of injuries.

Many homes in the area were evacuated as a precaution, and residents were asked to conserve water where possible so that it could be used to fight the fire.

An official says the company plans to rebuild.
