Man Shot And Killed Outside Front St. Grocery Store

A man is dead and another in serious condition after two separate shootings overnight.

Police say sometime after 3am Saturday, a masked gunman approached his 21-year-old victim in front of a Rabba grocery store on Front St. and shot him several times before fleeing through a rear alleyway.

Emergency crews responded to the scene and rushed the victim to St. Michael’s Hospital, but he was pronounced dead a short time later.

Police shut down the intersection of Front and Sherbourne for the investigation of what is the city’s 39th homicide of the year.

They say the victim was not known to them. And although they have no motive, it appears to be a targeted shooting, with multiple shots fired, all aimed at one person.

Residents passing the crime scene on Saturday were understandably stunned.

“I heard about four or five gunshots and I thought, ‘That’s not a car backfiring,” described one witness. “I feel terrible of course. I was wide awake and this poor guy’s dying.”

Earlier in the evening, a 25-year-old man was shot outside an internet café on Yonge St. near Finch Ave.

The victim was rushed to Sunnybrook hospital in serious condition around midnight.

Witnesses report seeing a two-door Acura fleeing the scene.
