TIFF Takes Over

Much to the delight of local stargazers and film buffs – and the chagrin of celebrity-weary cynics – TIFF is in the air.
It’s pretty hard to avoid for anyone navigating through the downtown core and especially in film festival hubs like Yorkville and Yonge-Dundas Square.
But for those who’d like to embrace the glitz and glamour and, of course, films, there will be plenty of opportunities to do so this week.
Tonight’s 6pm gala screening of Jason Reitman’s Up in the Air at Ryerson Theatre should satisfy on both counts. Sometime “Sexiest Man Alive” George Clooney will make an appearance on the red carpet along with co-stars Jason Bateman and Anna Kendrick.
If that’s too conventional, Yonge-Dundas Square will be the site of a George A. Romero-led Zombie Walk, which concludes with a free screening of the horror director’s Night of the Living Dead. His latest film, Survival of the Dead, premieres Saturday night as part of TIFF’s Midnight Madness program.
On Monday at 9pm, Jonathan Demme will host the North American premiere of his concert film The Neil Young Trunk Show.
