City Eyes Possible Budget Cuts

Cuts to some city services could be on the way after Councillor and Budget Chair Shelley Carroll said Monday that she wants every department to find five percent they can shave off their spending.
A five percent reduction could spell savings of up to $175 million.
“We’ve asked people to look for that 5%. You want to look at different ways of delivering things before we take the easy step which is just to say let’s raise charges for fees and for permits,” she said.
