Crime reporter described as “legendary” dies

Legendary Toronto police reporter Gwyn “Jocko” Thomas died, Wednesday.

Thomas worked for 60 years as an award-winning newspaper reporter at the Toronto Star and also spent 25 years as CFRB’s police reporter.

He retired in 1989; but not before he earned a reputation as someone who loved to put in long hours to try and get the scoop.

In fact, another award-winning police reporter, the late Jim Morris, who worked at 680News, always described Thomas as his mentor.

Thomas was 96.
