Traffic closures clear on Hwy. 401 express

TORONTO, Ont. – There is relief for motorists on the Highway 401 express after two major accidents, Friday.

The eastbound 401 express lanes approaching Neilson Road have reopened after being shut down for about three-and-a-half hours.

The OPP said the driver of a blue convertible lost control of the vehicle and hit the centre median approaching Morningside Avenue just after 9 a.m.

The car then flipped over on its roof, but the driver was not ejected.

A 37-year-old man, believed to be from Whitby, Ont., is in hospital with serious injuries.

At around 10:30 a.m., another incident involved a jack-knifed tractor-trailer and several vehicles on the westbound express lanes near the Don Mills Road overpass.

The OPP said 11 people suffered minor injuries.
