401 Reopens After Deadly Crash

One person is dead, another in serious condition after a five car collision in Scarborough late Friday night.

The westbound express lanes of the 401, from Morningside Ave. to Leslie St. were closed overnight and reopened at around 10am Saturday morning. The collision took place around midnight.

Police say one person was killed when a westbound tractor-trailer struck the back end of a line of cars, the first being a Mazda Tribute, carrying four people.

The driver of the Tribute was killed, and one other occupant of the car was taken to hospital with life-threatening injuries.

The second vehicle hit was a Volkswagen Jetta. The female driver sustained serious injuries.

Alcohol is not believed to be a factor in the crash.
