Leaked Afghan Documents Reveal War Crimes: WikiLeaks Founder

Leaked military documents appear to reveal evidence of war crimes, Julian Assange said on Monday.

Assange is the founder of WikiLeaks, where the 91,000 records first appeared on Sunday. The documents cover six years of U.S. involvement in Afghanistan and include unreported incidents of Afghan civilian killings and covert operations against Taliban figures.

Assange added that reading the documents is like opening the files of East Germany’s secret Stasi police.

The White House, Britain and Pakistan have all condemned the documents’ release.

The leaked documents appear to show ties between Pakistan’s most powerful spy agency and Taliban militants fighting NATO troops in Afghanistan, suggesting current and former officials have met with the Taliban.

Pakistan’s Inter-Services Intelligence denied the connection.
