No charges laid yet in 2-year-old vehicular stroke case

TORONTO, Ont. -It is uncertain whether charges will be laid in the tragic death of a Toronto toddler in Houston, Texas.

2-year-old Khoa Nguyen died after being accidentally left in a sweltering SUV for two hours.

The family had been visiting relatives and the mothers had gone out together, Thursday. The children stayed behind with the fathers and went to the grocery store, reported The Toronto Star.

The toddler was left in the vehicle once the family returned home. Police said it appeared the family was distracted after dealing with his 7-year-old brother, who is autistic and may have been having a seizure.

“They were trying to get him situated. He goes back out to get the 2-year-old and people were taking groceries out of the car and bringing groceries in…they just got distracted and two hours go by before somebody realizes that little kid isn’t in the house with them,” said a police officer from Texas.

The temperature inside the vehicle where the boy was found was as high as a stifling 60 degrees Celsius.

Although police don’t plan on laying charges, the case may still go before a grand jury, reported CTV.

Nearly 40 children in the United States have died this year from vehicular heat stroke.
