Weekend Road Closures

Once again, another weekend of carefree city driving is foiled by road closures.

There are the usual repairs and constructions and there are also two events that will cause some traffic in Toronto.

If you’re thinking of taking the TTC to avoid the surface hassles, be warned: there’s no subway service between Lawrence West and Downsview stations on the Spadina line.

Here’s a look at what’s happening weekend:

Bloor West Village Ukrainian Festival
Bloor Street will be closed from Jane Street to Runnymede Avenue starting Friday, September 17 at 9:30 am. It will reopen on Sunday, September 19 at 11:59pm.

Local roads will also be closed.

Variety Village 5 Kilometre Wheels, Run and Walk-N-Roll

Danforth Avenue will be closed from Kingston Road to Birchmount Road on Sunday, September 19 from 7am to 1pm.

To make matters worse, road resurfacing and bridge rehabilitation work on the Gardiner Expressway will commence on September 18th and run until October 7. from September 18 to October 7.  Full and partial closures for the Gardiner Expressway will be required.  They are as follows:

• The westbound lanes of the Gardiner Expressway will be closed from Carlaw Avenue to the Humber River and the eastbound lanes of the Gardiner Expressway will be closed from the Humber River to Spadina Avenue from Saturday, September 18 at 2 a.m. to Monday, September 20 at 5 a.m. for construction work at the Jameson Bridge.

• The westbound lanes of the Gardiner Expressway will be closed from Carlaw Avenue to the Humber River from Tuesday, September 28 at 11 p.m. to Wednesday, September 29 at 5 a.m. and from Wednesday, September 29 at 11 p.m. to Thursday, September 30 at 5 a.m. for construction work at the Lakeshore Bridge over the Gardiner Expressway at Dunn Avenue.

• The eastbound lanes of the Gardiner Expressway will be closed from the Humber River to Spadina Avenue from Thursday, September 30 at 11 p.m. to Friday, October 1 at 5 a.m. and overnight Sunday, October 3 at 11 p.m. to Monday October 4 at 5 a.m. for construction work at the Lakeshore Bridge over the Gardiner Expressway at Dunn Avenue.

• There will also be intermittent nightly (between 11 p.m. and 5 a.m.) closures in both directions of the Gardiner Expressway in the vicinity of Jameson/Dunn bridge construction from Monday, October 4 to Thursday, October 7.  At least one lane of traffic in each direction will remain open during the construction work.

Alternative routes available for motorists during these closures include the Queensway, Richmond Street, Adelaide Street and Lake Shore Boulevard. Whenever possible, the public is encouraged to consider using public transit as a convenient alternative.
