First Day of Fall Arrives

September 23 marked the first day of autumn, but it won’t feel like it for a while.
As of 11:09am, your summer was over, but temperatures are supposed to stay muggy. Friday alone is currently predicted to feel like 33C and on Thursday we’ll see a high of 20C and a 30 per cent chance of showers.
Next week, fall may finally feel like it’s moving in as temperatures drop down to the high teens.
Torontonians, and the rest of the Northern Hemisphere, got a taste of fall Wednesday night when the Harvest Moon was full for the first time in nearly 20 years.
The sun set to the west, marking the end of summer, while the moon rose in the east, marking the beginning of fall. This allowed the two light sources to mix to create an exceptional change-of-season glow.
Not only was the moon full and glowing, but it also looked bigger than most Harvest Moons.
The actual effect happened at 7:17pm, and earlier storms made way for clear skies and perfect viewing.
This summer gave us barbecues, Frisbee matches, and two heat waves, with temperatures soaring high above 30C.
It’s time to say goodbye to the occasionally unbearable heat and welcome a cooler season.
Dave Phillips, Senior Climatologist for Environment Canada, predicts while the beginning of fall will be warm, we will definitely see a colder winter than last year – and that includes more snow.
Just another season to look forward to.
