Delta Chelsea hotel workers go on strike

TORONTO, Ont. – Workers at the Delta Chelsea hotel in downtown Toronto walked off the job, Wednesday, to protest the lack of movement in contract talks.

Key issues include workloads, job security, wages and benefits.

Unite Here Local 75 said the walkout will signal the start of a two-week strike.

The workers reached a strike-lockout deadline last week, and voted 95 per cent to authorize a strike earlier during the summer.

The strike will coincide with two day social media conference, Blissdom Canada. Hundreds of women are expected to be in attendance.

Organizers said the conference is still a go, despite the labour disruption.

Delta operates the Delta Chelsea Hotel, as well as the Delta Toronto East and Delta Airport West, both of which are also in negotiations with Unite Here Local 75.
