Bowing to pressure, the Harper government is giving municipalities and construction companies more time to spend federal stimulus dollars.
The deadline is now October 31, 2011 instead of March.
“Now while this is subject to some conditions, nevertheless it should allow for sufficient time for the completion of all remaining projects. And of course as this applies to projects already approved, there will be no additional cost to taxpayers”, Harper said.
Parliament’s budget watchdog had been warning more than $300-million might not be spent if the deadline wasn’t extended.
