Apple cracks down on kids’ spending sprees

Apple is now making it harder for kids to run rampant, racking up big bills on their parent’s iPods, iPads and iPhones.

The problem was that after mom or dad entered their password, the device didn’t prompt for the password again for 15 minutes, leaving little ones plenty of time to go on a downloading frenzy.

After receiving customer complaints, the company has issued software that includes a timer to limit inadvertent purchases.

This will be a welcome relief to many parents. One Florida father was hit with a $613 charge for digital fish his son downloaded while playing the “Tap Fish” iPhone app.

In another case, the child of a “Business Week” reporter bought $375 worth of virtual pearls.

Eventually, the charges were reversed.
