VANCOUVER (NEWS1130) – The post-9/11 world is a different one, especially at our border crossings. News1130 is looking at the changes that have come into effect since Labour Day in 2001.
The terror attacks not only changed lives in the States, they also changed the way Canadians enter and exit that country. For one, we now need passports to cross the border.
“We have a lot more agents and officers. We’ve added a lot of security technology including additional targeting systems, intelligence sharing systems, license plate readers, our radiation portal monitors, gamma imaging systems to help us enhance border security,” says Mike Milne with U.S. Customs and Border Protection.
He believes the changes help legitimate people cross a lot quicker.
He says one thing that hasn’t changed this Labour Day long weekend is you still need to ‘know before you go’ what you can and can’t take into the country.
