Christy Clark looking for break on HST repayment

VANCOUVER (NEWS1130) – We’re not ducking you Mr. Prime Minister, we just need a break!

Christy Clark is trying to get some leniency from Ottawa when in comes to paying back HST transition funds.

This week, Finance Minister Kevin Falcon revealed the deficit this year will hit $3 billion. So it’s no wonder that the premier is trying to convince the feds to let the province keep a part of the $1.6 billion while granting an extension on giving back the rest.

Clark wouldn’t say exactly what kind of break she is seeking, but central to her argument is by the time it goes away, the HST will have been around for two-thirds of the time it was required to be under BC’s original deal with Ottawa.
