Pronger latest NHL player out with a concussion

TORONTO, Ont. – Another high-profile NHL player has been sidelined with a serious concussion.

Philadelphia Flyers captain Chris Pronger will miss the rest of the season and the playoffs.

“The hard part at the end of the day to swallow is that he’s been shut down for an extended period of time,” Flyers head coach Peter Laviolette said, confirming  Pronger is suffering from “severe post-concussion syndrome.”

Sportsnet analyst Doug Maclean told 680News concussions are a massive problem in the league.

“They’ve got to continue to investigate and come up with anything they can — we’ve got 25 players out with concussions right now, and some of the them the best players in the world,” Maclean said.

We all know that Sidney Crosby was out for 10 months, returned to the game, and is now out again still suffering from concussion-like symptoms.

The decision to pull Pronger off the ice came after he was examined by the same doctors who treated Crosby.

Pronger has been one of hockey’s top performers for more two decades, and some believe this could mean the 37-year-old’s hockey career is over.

Sportsnet analyst and former NHL player Nick Kypreos knows what that’s like, as his career also came to and end with a concussion.

“It’s just not what Chris Pronger has had done to him the last few months, but over the course of a career. I’ve been down this path,” Kypreos said.
