Man arrested after fleeing North York crash: police

Police have arrested a man in connection with an alleged hit-and-run in North York around 10 a.m. Wednesday.

The driver was headed south on Jane Street, when he tried to turn left on Sheppard Avenue West. Police say his car collided with a northbound SUV, and he fled north on Jane.

The man’s car hit a pedestrian safety island near Grandravine Drive, flipped and caught fire.

“Pretty severe accident, but pretty spectacular,” said witness Ray Biastoch. “That thing went in the air. It was like an action clip from a movie.”

The driver suffered burns in the rollover and was loaded into an ambulance.

A passenger was also hurt.

The SUV driver from the first crash had minor injuries.
