Man sought after ‘vicious’ kidnapping

A 32-year-old man is wanted for kidnapping and holding a man for ransom earlier this month, Toronto police say.

Cardinell Senior, of no fixed address, is wanted on a Canada-wide warrant on charges of kidnapping forcible confinement and extortion, Staff Insp. Mike Earl said Thursday.

On the evening of Dec. 2, the victim, whose name wasn’t disclosed for his own safety, was on his way to a hockey game when he was kidnapped by suspects who beat and tortured him for hours. The kidnappers contacted the victim’s family and demanded an amount in the range of $500,000, Earl said.

The family phoned police, who then “directed” the conservation between the family and the kidnappers. A location for the dropoff of the ransom was made, and police monitored the possible exchange that was going to occur.

Earl said that at the time of the meetup, police arrested one man, Jason King, 31, of Toronto after a confrontation with police, but Senior eluded them. King faces the same three criminal offences.

“We believe he’s armed and dangerous,” Earl said. “There were weapons involved in this incident.”

The victim was located by neighbours in the York Mills and the Don Valley Parkway area after he fell off a rooftop. He had been duct taped and suffered head injuries. He is now with family after being hospitalized.

Police said there was no evidence that the victim knew his kidnappers and added that the kidnapping was well organized and wasn’t something that happened on the spur of the moment.

They declined to say where the kidnapping occurred or the meetup location, saying the investigation was ongoing.
