Leafs make Wilson’s deal official

A day after his coach tweeted that he had signed a new contract, Toronto Maple Leafs general manager Brian Burke made it official.
Burke announced Monday that the team has inked Ron Wilson to an extension. Terms of the deal were not disclosed.
Wilson hinted Friday on Twitter that he wanted a new contract from Santa Claus for Christmas.
He tweeted again on Sunday morning, saying he had gotten his wish.
“‘He came! He came!’ Remember saying that as a little kid? Well he did: I got a new Red Ryder BB gun and a contract extension!” Wilson posted Sunday morning on his official Twitter account.
The team did not immediately confirm Wilson’s extension when contacted Sunday.
Burke announced the deal to the media during the second intermission of Monday’s AHL game between the Toronto Marlies and the Hamilton Bulldogs at Air Canada Centre.
The 56-year-old Wilson was in the final season of a four-year contract and currently has the Leafs in sixth place in the Eastern Conference with 40 points.
The team has not made the playoffs in three prior seasons under Wilson, who is 119-120-42 overall with Toronto.
A defenceman in his playing days, Wilson was selected by the Leafs in the 1975 draft. He has a 637-546-101-88 coaching record with Anaheim, Washington, San Jose and Toronto. He is 47-48 in the playoffs.
