Man shot dead in east end identified

Toronto police are investigating after a man was shot dead in the city’s east end Friday.

D’Mitre Barnaby, 24, was pronounced dead at the scene

He was found outside the Susan Towers apartment building at 3895 Lawrence Ave. E., near Orton Park Road, around 11:15 a.m. Friday.

“The victim appears to be targeted. I don’t think this is a random shooting,” Det. Sgt. Brett Nicol said.

A daycare, Future Stars Child Care, operates out of the same apartment building and there were children in the facility at the time.

Police are looking for two male suspects, one of whom was seen carrying a gun.

“We had the canine unit officers out tracking in a westerly direction from the scene. We have not located any suspects or persons of interest,” Nicol said.

No weapon has been recovered and no suspect descriptions have been released.

At least one person who lives in the area wasn’t surprised by Friday’s violence.

“It’s nothing new, nothing unusual around here,” resident Bob Henderson said.

“You get shootings right, left, and centre.”
