Could 2012 be year of management changes at RIM?

TORONTO, Ont. – With shareholders pushing back from a disastrous 2011 stock performance, there are rumblings that some new roles might be in the cards for those in the corner offices of Research In Motion.
Sources told the National Post the Blackberry maker may announce a corporate shakeup sometime in the first quarter.
Specifically under fire would be the post of Chairman of the Board, currently held on a joint-basis by co-founders Jim Balsillie and Mike Lazaridis.
The National Post is reporting independent director Barbara Stymiest, who joined the board of directors in 2007, is the leading candidate.
A committee of seven independent directors has been examining the corporate structure of RIM, after shareholders pushed for change following the loss of approximately 75% of the company’s share price this year.
The losses came following disappointing numbers for the Playbook tablet, increasing competition from other smartphone makers and several public image issues.
