Canada wins bronze at World Juniors

TORONTO, Ont. – Canada has won bronze at the World Junior Hockey Championships with a 4-0 win over Finland.
However, many Toronto fans expressed their displeasure with Team Canada’s performance in the tournament, saying “If it’s not Gold, it’s not a game.”
As our team battled Finland Thursday afternoon, a lot of fans at Real Sports Bar told 680News they were still hurting from Tuesday’s loss to Russia, and showed little enthusiasm for the match-up but still watched the game.
Some, however, said finishing third, might as well be tenth place.
One woman told 680News she cannot help but expect more from the Canadian team.
“They’ve got us used to the level of play that they’ve played in the past and it makes it disappointing when they don’t produce what they usually do.”
Before the game, team captain Jaden Schwartz said they did not want to go home empty handed and that he felt the bronze medal would mean more to the team after the game than the idea of it did at that time.
Team Canada was down three players due to injuries and a suspension.
Goaltender Mark Visentin was the feel-good story of the game. He stopped a second-period penalty shot and made a no-look, around-the-back save early in the third. He finished with 27 saves for the shutout.
Quinton Howden scored two goals while Tanner Pearson and Mark Scheifele had the others before 18,595 spectators, including Prime Minister Stephen Harper.
Finland’s Sami Aittokallio stopped 40 shots.
This is the first time in ten years that Canada did not advance to the Gold Medal round. Canada has a won a medal in the tournament for 14 consecutive years.
