Liverpool inks captain Gerrard to extension

LIVERPOOL, England — Liverpool says captain Steven Gerrard has signed a “long-term” contract extension with the Premier League club and will take up an ambassadorial role when his career ends.

The 31-year-old midfielder has spent his entire career at Liverpool.

Gerrard’s penalty kick gave Liverpool a 1-0 win over Manchester City on Wednesday in the first leg of the League Cup semifinals.
