Apple again surpasses Exxon as most valuable US company

Apple’s stellar performance at the end of last year could re-establish it as the world’s most valuable company.

The company has once again toppled Exxon Mobil after it announced on Tuesday that $37-million iPhones were sold in the last quarter of 2011.

That blew away analyst estimates and propelled the company to record quarterly results.

Apple’s net income grew 118 per cent to $13.06-billion, bringing the company’s worth to $415-billion.

On Wednesday, Exxon Mobil Corp. shares were down 1 per cent at $86.52, which gives it a market cap of $414-billion.

Apple first unseated Exxon last summer and the two have been trading places since then.
