STRATFORD, Ont. — Glenn Howard needed just four ends to continue his dominating run at the Dominion Tankard Ontario men’s curling championship.
Howard’s Coldwater rink improved to 6-0 after a 5-0 win over Arnprior’s Chris Gardiner in Wednesday’s middle draw. Howard scored three in the first end, then added steals in the third and fourth end to put a quick to the match.
It was the second four-end win of the day for Howard, who is looking to claim his seventh straight Ontario men’s curling title. Howard scored three in the first end and four in the fourth in a 7-1 rout of Woodstock’s Wayne Tuck Jr. in Wednesday’s first draw.
Brampton’s Peter Corner suffered his first loss in the competition in the early draw, but rebounded in the afternoon to sit alone in second place at 4-1.
Corner opened with a 6-4 loss to Listowel’s Daryl Shane, then scored one in the 10th end for a tight 6-5 win over Harriston’s Jake Higgs.
Howard and Corner met in Wednesday’s late draw.
In the afternoon draw, Thornhill’s Mike Anderson moved into third place at 3-2 with an 8-6 win over Tuck.
Greg Balsdon (3-3) of the Loonie Curling Club missed a chance to move ahead of Anderson, falling 7-5 to Winchester’s Bryan Cochrane.
Brampton’s Dayna Deruelle beat Mark Kean of Ajax’s Annandale Curling Club 8-6. Deruelle, Cochrane, Gardiner and Shane are in a four-way tie for fifth at 2-3.
Higgs, Kean and Tuck are next at 2-4.
