Arrest made in alleged abduction of girl, 4

Police have arrested and charged a man after a four-year-old girl was allegedly abducted from a North York home and sexually assaulted on Boxing Day last year.

At the time, the girl’s family told officers a man went into their house near Bathurst Street and Wilson Avenue, between 3 a.m. and 3:30 a.m., and took the child.

The family said they found the girl minutes later and saw a man fleeing. They described him as 19 or 20 years old.

The girl, who had been visiting from Connecticut at the time, was treated in hospital.

“There was some screaming at night, and I was still up, so I heard the screaming and I didn’t know what to make of it,” a neighbour, who wishes to remain anonymous, told CityNews.

“She must have been terrified. To me, that’s awful, No child should ever suffer.”

Police have not released the name of the accused or his charges as they say it could compromise the investigation.

They will reveal more details at a news conference on Tuesday.
